How the Ranking Works
Maximum drawdown is the largest fall from a peak to a later low over the past year, measured on daily closes. Stocks with less than a year of history are left out, and so are stocks that have barely moved for three months, which usually means a pending buyout has pinned the price to the deal.
One year's drawdown only shows the worst of that year: a stock that held up through a mild market can still fall hard in a crash. Read it with the stock's volatility and 1-year return, and see the Sortino ratio for how much of its risk came from falls.
